A four-in-hand driver is a term used to describe someone driving a carriage or team of horses with four horses abreast in a particular configuration. However, there are many synonyms for this archaic term that can be used to describe someone who is skilled at driving a team of horses, such as a carriage driver, a coachman, a charioteer, a teamster, or a horseman. These synonyms are more commonly used today and can be used interchangeably to describe someone who is skilled at driving a team of horses whether for sport, recreation or as a profession.
