Aretaics is a term originally coined by the Greek philosopher Aristotle to describe the study of moral virtue. The word, which comes from the Greek term "arete" meaning excellence or virtue, has several synonyms that may be used interchangeably. These include virtue ethics, moral philosophy, axiology, and normative ethics. Each of these terms describes the study of what is considered to be good and right behavior, as well as the principles and values that govern ethical decision-making.
