Step parents, also known as blended parents, are caregivers who have taken on the responsibility of raising a child that is not biologically theirs. Other synonyms for step parents include non-biological parents, bonus parents, or "in-laws". The term bonus parents is often used to describe step parents who have formed a positive and healthy relationship with their stepchildren. In addition, some cultures refer to step parents as godparents, mentors, guardians, or simply family. Whatever term is used, having a loving and supportive parental figure in a child's life is essential to their emotional and social development.
