Kikuchi Disease, also known as histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis, is a rare benign condition that causes inflammation of the lymph nodes. The disease primarily affects young adults and is more common in Asia. Kikuchi Disease is often misdiagnosed as lymphoma, hence, it is important to distinguish the condition from other diseases. Some of the synonyms for Kikuchi Disease include Kikuchi-Fujimoto Disease, necrotizing lymphadenitis, Kikuchi lymphadenitis, Kikuchi histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis, and histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenopathy. Due to the rarity of the condition, research and studies on Kikuchi Disease are limited. Treatment for the condition primarily involves managing the symptoms with pain relievers, anti-inflammatory medications, and sometimes, corticosteroids.
